Enabling Sustainable Expansion: Turning Waste Heat into a Reliable Onsite Water Supply While Reducing Operating Costs

Atoco’s AWH Solution

The Challenge

Data Center Challenges

  • Data Centers generate significant amounts of low-grade waste heat from the constant operation of servers and other equipment, which require cooling systems to maintain optimal operating temperature and efficiency.
  • This causes data centers to be among the most resource-intensive infrastructures—consuming significant amounts of water for cooling driven by AI, cloud expansion and global digitalization.
  • Meanwhile, many data center projects are sited in water-stressed and arid regions where competing with communities and other industries for water is now a permitting and reputational risk.
Our Approach

Our Solutions

  • Atoco can transform low-grade waste heat from data centers into pure water, with distilled-water-quality and high flexibility and versatility, independent from external electricity or grid.
  • By consuming energy from low-grade waste heat to harvest water from air, Atoco provides supplemental cooling impact on return waste heat and reduces thermal load on existing cooling infrastructure.
  • Atoco’s AWH technologies provides decentralized and sustainable water production, providing water and climate resiliency to the data center industry.

On-Grid vs. Off-Grid Technology?

Which technology is more suitable for my data centers?

Both On-grid and Off-grid AWH technologies can help date centers become water independent and resilient, with each providing distinct and unique advantages and benefits.

On-grid AWH system is a plug-and-play solution with up to 4,000 L/day/unit capacity and industry leading energy efficiency.

Off-gird AWH system is powered 100% by low-grade waste heat from the data center and requires zero external electricity or grid, with up to 1,000L/day/unit capacity.

What if I have enough electricity and need to generate more water?

Atoco’s On-grid AWH system is a plug-and-play solution with up to 4,000 L/day/unit capacity and industry leading energy efficiency, and can be deployed to anywhere with 3-phase power and rigid flat surface to install.

The system is modular which can be stacked as many as you wish to maximize the water generation capacity.

How can I utilize the low-grade waste heat from my data center?

Atoco’s Off-gird AWH system can generate water 100% powered by low-grade waste heat from data centers. It is the only technology in the market that can harvest water from air without any external electricity or grid.

By transforming the low-grade waste heat into valuable pure water, Atoco’s AWH system provides supplementary cooling to this waste heat stream, reducing the thermal load on the existing cooling infrastructure, which leads to significant energy savings.

The system is modular which can be stacked as many as you wish to maximize the water generation capacity.

Where can I use the water from Atoco’s AWH system in the data center?

Atoco’s AWH technology generates pure, distilled-water-quality, water with high flexibility and versatility. Water can be used as a make-up water for cooling infrastructures, potable water for on-site employees, and irrigation within the facility.

If required, the end-can integrate their own solutions/equipment to mineralize, store, transport and utilize water for different purposes.

What if I want to achieve more water generation from Atoco’s AWH for my data center?

Atoco’s both On-grid and Off-grid AWH systems are modular which can be installed and stacked as many as you wish in a given footprint to maximize the water generation capacity.

More importantly, if you have a stable low-grade waste heat available on-site, Atoco can build an Off-grid Utility-Scale Water Harvesting Station with hundreds of thousands of liters per day capacity.
