Atoco Founder Professor Omar Yaghi Awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry

Author: Atoco

Atoco‘s founder and Chief Science Officer, Professor Omar Yaghi, has been awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for the development of metal–organic frameworks (MOFs).

At Atoco, we are proudly working under the scientific supervision of Prof. Yaghi on the commercialization of his discoveries by developing and scaling disruptive technologies in the fields of atmospheric water harvesting and carbon capture.

This Nobel Prize award is timely as Atoco is in the process of demonstrating its industrial prototypes to the market. Our solutions show outstanding performance, reflecting the exceptional properties of the reticular materials invented by Prof. Yaghi.

A Revolution in Chemistry

MOFs are crystalline, ultra-porous materials with atomically precise architectures and extremely high internal surface areas. Scientists can tune pore size, chemistry, and stability of these materials with atomic precision for specific applications.

Atoco was founded by Prof. Yaghi to translate this science into transformative technologies that tackle both the causes and effects of climate change. Under the guidance of Prof. Yaghi, our teams apply advances in reticular chemistry to two areas where transformative materials can unlock real-world impact:

Atmospheric Water Harvesting: generating clean water from air, even at low humidity and off grid. Learn more

Carbon Capture: enabling energy-efficient carbon capture at scale. Learn more

We congratulate and celebrate Professor Yaghi’s achievement in establishing this vibrant field of chemistry.
