DAC – Data Centers

Transforming cooling airflow and waste heat in data centers into carbon removal opportunities through integrated Direct Air Capture technology.

Atoco’s DAC Solution

The Challenge

Data Center Challenges

  • AI-driven growth is accelerating the expansion of data centers, creating unprecedented demand for power, cooling, and digital infrastructure.
  • However, access to energy, sustainability requirements, and growing scrutiny over environmental impact are becoming major challenges for the industry.
  • Beyond improving operational efficiency, operators are increasingly expected to demonstrate measurable progress toward net-zero and carbon-negative commitments.
  • This is driving interest in innovative solutions that can reduce emissions while supporting continued growth and reliability.
Our Approach

Our Solutions

  • Atoco enables data centers to permanently remove CO₂ directly from the atmosphere by transforming existing infrastructure into distributed carbon removal assets.
  • Powered by advanced reticular materials engineered with atomic precision, Atoco’s Direct Air Capture technology is designed to deliver high CO₂ capture performance with significantly lower energy requirements than conventional solutions.
  • By leveraging the large volumes of airflow already moved through data centers, together with available ultra low-grade waste heat, Atoco minimizes additional energy demand while helping operators achieve net-zero and carbon-negative objectives without compromising reliability or scalability.

Atoco’s DAC Solution for Data Centers

Atoco designs and develops solid-state carbon capture modules that efficiently capture CO₂ at low atmospheric concentrations of around 400 ppm, setting a new standard for energy efficiency in DAC systems.

How It Works?

Illustration showing Atoco's Direct Air Capture (DAC) solution integrated with a data center. Ambient air is drawn into DAC units where CO₂ is captured, while clean air is released. Captured CO₂ is compressed for storage or utilization, and waste heat and power from the data center support the carbon capture process, creating a low-carbon infrastructure ecosystem.
The technology

Key Features

  • Ambient-Air Stable: Captures CO₂ directly from humid air; no energy-intensive pre-drying required
  • Energy-Efficiency CO₂ Capture: Enables capture and release at regeneration temperatures as low as 40°C, unlocking the use of ultra-low-grade waste heat.
  • High DAC Capacity: Record solid-state CO₂ uptake and adsorption/desorption kinetics.
  • Low Maintenance: No liquid chemicals. Reliable solid-state technology ensures durable performance over tens of thousands of cycles.
The impact

Benefits

  • Turn air cooling into a revenue-generating sustainability asset.
  • Leverage controlled HVAC environments to operate direct air capture efficiently.
  • Utilize ultra-low-grade waste heat to significantly reduce capture costs.
