Aquatech Amsterdam 2025
Atoco at Aquatech in Amsterdam
Amsterdam – March 11-14
Water scarcity is one of the most severe consequences of climate change. But what if we could pull water straight from the air, even in the driest and most remote regions?
At this year’s Aquatech in Amsterdam, Atoco’s founder, Prof. Omar Yaghi, will deliver the keynote address at the opening ceremony, presenting to a select audience of industry leaders and decision-makers. His keynote, titled “How Novel Precision Materials Will Solve the Water Scarcity Problem,” will explore how nano-engineered reticular materials make this vision a reality.
Prof. Yaghi is one of the world’s most cited chemists and the founder of reticular chemistry—the science of designing and building porous materials at the molecular level. His work has led to the development of Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs) and Covalent Organic Frameworks (COFs), materials with unparalleled surface area and tunability. These materials can be nano-engineered with atomic precision for a wide range of applications.
One of the most transformative applications of reticular materials is the ability to harvest water from air. Even in arid environments, these materials can extract moisture at utility-scale using only ambient energy, offering a decentralized and sustainable solution to global water scarcity. With climate change intensifying droughts and depleting freshwater sources, this technology has the potential to provide safe drinking water in the world’s most water-stressed regions.
The development of these novel reticular materials and their transition from the lab to impactful real-world applications is increasingly being driven by AI. Prof. Yaghi will demonstrate how AI and Machine Learning are fundamentally reshaping the way chemistry is conducted, accelerating discoveries and optimizing material properties for practical use. By leveraging AI, chemists can more efficiently design and refine breakthrough materials, ensuring faster deployment in solutions like Atoco’s atmospheric water harvesting technology. Prof. Yaghi will explain how this powerful synergy between AI and reticular chemistry is revolutionizing how scientific innovations address global challenges.
Decentralized Water Solutions with Magnus Bach
Magnus Bach, VP Business Development at Atoco, will present insights into the practical applications of decentralized atmospheric water harvesting. His talk will highlight how Atoco’s nano-engineered reticular materials make it possible to extract water from the air efficiently and sustainably, reducing reliance on existing water infrastructure. Bach will discuss real-world applications of this technology, including off-grid water generation for remote communities, disaster relief, and agricultural use in dry climates.
