World Utilities Congress Abu Dhabi 2025
About the World Utilities Congress
The World Utilities Congress is one of the most influential global gatherings for leaders in power, water, and energy innovation. The event brings together policymakers, technology developers, investors, and utility providers to explore solutions that drive sustainable growth, energy security, and climate resilience.
This year, the World Utilities Congress is taking place from 27–29 May 2025 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC). The 2025 agenda focuses heavily on clean technologies and the role of responsible innovation in shaping the future of utilities.

Why Carbon Markets Matter
As the global community accelerates efforts to meet climate goals, carbon markets have emerged as a powerful mechanism to drive decarbonization. When implemented responsibly, they create financial incentives for emission reductions, support innovation, and enable the transition to a low-carbon economy.
However, growth in carbon markets must be matched with rigorous principles of integrity and transparency, along with strong technological infrastructure to ensure real, verifiable impact. Without these, carbon markets risk losing credibility and effectiveness.
What to Expect from the Session
In this session, Magnus will join a panel of experts to explore how carbon markets can expand sustainably and equitably. His contribution will focus on one of the most pressing challenges in the climate technology space: making carbon capture not only scalable but economically viable, especially in low CO₂ concentration environments where capture costs are currently prohibitive.
Magnus will introduce the role of nano-engineered reticular materials—a class of novel porous materials Atoco designs at the molecular level to selectively capture and store CO₂. These materials hold significant promise in improving capture efficiency and reducing costs, and will play a transformative role in unlocking broader adoption of carbon capture technologies across industries.
