Our Mission
Our mission is to tackle water scarcity and global warming by developing sustainable and transformational solutions in the fields of Atmospheric Water Harvesting and CO2 Capture – all built upon Professor Yaghi’s discoveries in molecularly engineered materials.
Our Vision
To become the technology leader in climate change solutions through creativity and innovation.
The Global Water Problem
Despite being our most precious resource, fresh water is drying up faster than we can replace it. Not only is water scarcity getting worse, but access to clean water isn’t equally available across the globe. Many have tried to step up, but current solutions just aren’t sustainable.
At Atoco, we believe these issues must be addressed immediately. Water is critical for socio-economic growth and development, and the one resource we need as a planet to keep ecosystems thriving. Equal and affordable access to water is needed to combat the ramifications of the water scarcity problem, globally. There is no more theoretical “someday.” We must act today.
The Global Warming Problem
Climate change is primarily caused by the release of greenhouse gases (GHGs) into the atmosphere. While it is not the only greenhouse gas, studies have shown that carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions have the most significant impact on climate change. According to the Center for Climate and Energy Solutions (C2ES), CO2 represents about 76% of total greenhouse gas emissions.CO2
At Atoco, we believe that climate change must be dealt with immediately. Sea levels have already risen by around 15cm (6 inches) since the beginning of the 20th century. In 2020, an estimated 30 million people were displaced by extreme weather events such as floods, storms, and wildfires. Up to 1 million species are threatened with extinction, many within decades.
Climate change may also have significant socio-economic impacts, including agricultural productivity loss, water scarcity and increased costs associated with extreme weather events, potentially leading to famine, migration and social unrest.
Atoco Water Harvesting
Today, the challenges of global water scarcity and water stress have grown to critical levels, threatening the lives and livelihoods of billions of people. According to the United Nations, over half the world’s population already lives with insufficient access to clean water.
Atoco Carbon Capture
Driven primarily by CO2 emissions, global temperature rises are causing climate change, including dangerous rises in sea levels and flooding, famines, water scarcity, extreme weather events and the loss of biodiversity.
